The Kurukkuturai Ghat of the Tamiraparani, the other centre for Pushkaram, is where people gather to perform rituals round the year. Located close to the river, the Murugan temple here goes under water during monsoon. Legend has it that the stone for the Tiruchendur Subramanya idol was sourced here. When the Swaminatha Swamy temple (Uttara Swami Malai) in New Delhi was built, the stone for the Moolavar was taken from Kurukkuturai with the consent of Dharmapuram Adeenam and the blessings of Mahaperiyava.
