Police registers case against woman for casteist remarks against CM Vijayan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Pathanamthitta district police have registered a case against Maniyamma a woman who made casteist remarks against chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, while giving her response during protest over the Sabarimala verdict.
Aranmula SHO Anil B Rawther said that she has been booked under section 294 (b) of the Indian Penal Code. Under the section, anyone who sings, recites or utters any obscene song, ballad or words, in or near any public place, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three months, or with fine, or with both. The police said that a probe has been launched and it will be examined on who all are spreading the video in the social media platforms.

The case was registered after the video in which the woman was seen using a casteist slur went viral in the social media and messaging applications. The case was registered on a petition by SNDP Pathanamthitta office bearer Sunil Kumar. The video that went viral invited severe criticism from many corners, including from Sri Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan who said that such remarks show that how intolerant are some of the people towards the chief minister who is from a backward community, ruling the state.
