SHAHJAHANPUR: In an incident straight out of a 90s Bollywood flick, a 24-year-old man’s hands were tied to a horse with a rope and he was dragged across the village in the presence of local residents at Saidpur village in UP’s
Shahjahanpur district on Wednesday. His brother too was severely thrashed. Their crime: the siblings objected to the accused’s horse grazing in their field.
Meanwhile, police have filed an FIR against five people and are investigating the matter. “Fearing damage to our standing crop, I drove Omendra Singh Yadav’s horse out of our field. Within minutes, he and his brothers arrived and started thrashing me. When my younger brother Ram Kishan tried to stop them, they tied his hands to the horse and dragged him in the entire village. Since Omendra is an influential figure, nobody came forward to help us. We are hoping that police will take some action against them,” said Kendrapal, 26.
Harendra Singh Tomar, SHO of Kalaan police station, where the case was registered, said, “The accused are quite notorious. They allegedly thrashed Kendrapal and his brother Ram Kishan as the two siblings drove off their horse from the field. We have registered an FIR against five people under IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 147 (rioting), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons) 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation). We have taken one of the accused into custody and have also recorded the statement of the two brothers. Soon after the incident, we sent Kendrapal and Ram Kishan to the district hospital for their medical examination. We are also looking into the crime record of the accused persons.”
