A division bench of justice M M Sundresh and justice N Satish Kumar issued the directions to the Kanyakumari district administration after the report submitted by the medical team mentioned that there is less chance of recovery of the woman.
The court had earlier initiated suo motu proceedings based on a petition from the 18-year-old, R S Aadharsha.
According to the petition, her mother went into coma due to medical negligence by doctors at the district co-operative hospital, Kulasekaram. The said hospital is defunct now.
According to Aadharsha’s petition, her mother, Shoba, was admitted to the co-operative hospital for delivery and during her birth, the doctor administered local anesthesia to her mother after which she went into coma. After her mother went into coma, her father remarried and the girl, now a student at an arts college in Thuckalay, was bought up by her grandmother for the past 18 years.
Aadarsha stated that her family has been surviving on the pension of Rs 1,000 granted by the government and sought financial aid to meet her educational expenses and the medical expenses to take care of her mother. Her father had filed a petition for compensation before the consumer court in 2012 and the case is still pending.
