MP CM kicks off election campaign; attacks Congress over farm loan waiver

BHOPAL: Attacking Congress over its promises to waive farm loans in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Thursday that grand old party betrayed the farmers in Punjab and did not fulfil its promise on waiving farm loans post-elections.

“Congress president Rahul Gandhi is promising loan waiver to farmers if voted to power in Madhya Pradesh. But he is deceiving and lying to farmers of the state ahead of polls like he did in Punjab,” said Chouhan while addressing a public meeting in Sehore district on Thursday.

The chief minister began his second phase of campaigning in Sehore from Mahatwada on Thursday after the Election Commission imposed model code of conduct in the state. During his yatra, Chouhan held road shows in Ashta, Amlaha and Sehore.

Addressing a public rally during his tour, Chouhan said that Congress leaders talk about farmers and agriculture, but they cannot tell what they did for the farmers during last 70 years.

“Congress must disclose what the party has done so far for the distressed farmers. MP Congress chief Kamal Nath must clarify whether announced interest at zero per cent or any other major help were provided to them. Another Congress leader from Delhi talks about onions without knowing how they grow,” said Chouhan, adding, “Congress only gave poverty and bimaru (laggard) tag to Madhya Pradesh.”

Reiterating his government schemes for farmers, Chouhan said that he would not only help them financially by paying justified price of their hard earned produce, but also increase MSP in coming years, if voted to power. Chouhan also highlighted government works for traders.

“Not only farmers will get benefited from schemes, the government has included both small farmers and traders under Sambal Yojana where they can avail the benefits. The government has solved the GST issue now and in the further course of action will ease the process in the interest of traders,” said Chouhan.

During the road show, the chief minister sought blessings of women and farmers, promising development of their area and building a prosperous Madhya Pradesh for future generation. He said government spent Rs 6000 crore on power bills of 77 lakh persons under Sambal Yojana. The BJP would continue to work for poverty alleviation in the state.

Chouhan also greeted people on the occasion of Navratri festival and appealed for woman empowerment. He said BJP government launched Ladli Laxmi scheme for girl child and helped 28 lakh girls under the scheme.

“Daughters are no less than Goddess Durga. They are the pride and honour of the family. We will take care of all Ladli Laxmis from birth to their education and even during their marriage. BJP is the only party who has proved what it had promised on empowering women in the state,” said Chouhan.
