In a shocking incident, a four-year-old girl Krishma has been admitted to the Government Hospital here after she consumed “some liquid”, suspected to be a cleaning liquid, kept in a packaged drinking water bottle at the Kanniseri Pudur Primary Health Centre.

Her condition is stable, according to the Joint Director (Health Services) R. Manokaran.

The girl had gone to the PHC on Tuesday along with her pregnant mother Suganthi of Chandragiri for a regular medical check-up. The girl is said to have consumed the “liquid.” She complained of burning sensation following which she was rushed to the Government Hospital here.

“She had accidentally consumed the liquid mistaking it to be drinking water. She vomited with some blood stains at the hospital that had created panic,” Dr. Manokaran said.

The Joint Director said that the girl had taken only one gulp of the liquid and left if after she felt uncomfortable. Stating that the girl was under a close examination, he said that Krishma was consuming tender coconut and her health was stable.

“The liquid was only around 100 ml in the one-litre bottle. The sample has been sent to Regional Forensic Science Laboratory in Madurai. It did not look like any acid, but some cleaning liquid. Yet, we are waiting for the result,” he said.

He added that it was not sure whether any hospital staff had left the bottle with cleaning liquid or any attenders of patient had left it. “That is under investigation,” he said.
