SHO murder case: Cops remain on high alert

JAIPUR: Mobile internet services were blocked near Fatehpur area in Sikar district and armed police units fanned out to nearby towns to close down on fugitives involved in the killing of SHO Mukesh Kanungo and constable Ram Prakash.

The movement of armed policemen around the periphery of Shekhawati fueled rumors of suspected confrontation between the police and dreaded wanted Ajay Choudhary and Jagdish.

Jaipur range IG, VK Singh however, denied social media rumors of encounter and said that the police were conducting special search operations across many fields, localities and houses to track down the fleeing criminals.

The sources informed TOI that mobile internet services were blocked in the area to ensure effectively stopping the criminals from communicating. The murder of two cops has come as a major embarrassment for the Rajasthan police.

SHO Mukesh Kanungo and constable Ram Prakash were shot dead on Sunday. The duo had gone to corner a band of local history-sheeters following a tip-off on their suspected movement in Beswan area.

“Kanungo and Ram Prakash were trailing the getaway vehicles of criminals identified as Ajay Choudhary and Jagdish. The fugitives managed to give cops a slip as they speeded away, however, barely a few seconds later, the criminals came back and shot dead the on duty policemen,” an official said.

The officials said that since fugitives are heavily armed, the police units have been asked to lay a cordon which could not be easily breached. The inter-state borders of Rajasthan and Haryana are under the strict vigil of the police.

The Shekhawati region comprising Sikar and Jhunjhunu districts have long given cops a headache. “The cultural proximity between villages in Haryana and Rajasthan provide easy access to criminals. They often crisscross these areas after committing crimes,” an official said.
