Wild weather overnight grounds Perth Airport flights
Wild weather has put on a spectacular show overnight with thunderstorms, hail and heavy rain grounding flights at Perth Airport.
The storm grounded several flights at Perth Airport, with no planes taking off during the peak of the downpour between 5.15pm and 7.30pm.
Three Qantas flights due to arrive in Perth from Adelaide and Solomon around 6.15pm were diverted to Geraldton and Kalgoorlie while several other WA regional flights from the Midwest and Pilbara appeared to be cancelled.
Photos were taken by Western Australian residents of the clouds rolling in from the Indian Ocean.
Jandakot recorded the most rain with 14.6 millimetres overnight – 12.6 millimetres of that falling between 5.30pm and 6.30pm.
Hail also lashed suburbs in Perth’s south including Atwell, Cockburn and Success.
The rain came amidst a humid minimum temperature of just 18.7 degrees in Perth at
8.30pm overnight.
The wet weather is expected to clear by midday Wednesday however the rain is forecast to return for the weekend with thunderstorms and up to 15 millimetres of rain predicted on Saturday.
