After the Supreme Court’s direction to the Centre to submit all details — except that of the pricing and technology — of the Rafale deal in a sealed cover by October 29, the Congress asked its cadre to take the issue to the villages.

Cashing in Rafale

Congress president Rahul Gandhi urged a meeting of the national executive of Youth Congress workers and asked them to visit villages and campaign about the corruption in the Government as the party gears up for the Assembly elections in December.

Launches Twitter attack

He said on Twitter that the decision-making process of Rafale is “quite simple.”

“The PM decided. The processes to justify his decision are yet to be invented. But work has begun,” he said.

Senior Congress spokesperson and the convenor of the party’s core group on Rafale controversy S Jaipal Reddy said the Centre is manipulating the process of Rafale agreement by punishing bureaucrats who raised objection to the deal, and rewarding those who obliged.

Reddy said defence deals of such magnitude are first examined by departments, approved by the Cabinet Committee on Security and then sealed.

“To manage this process, bureaucrats were bulldozed, bullied, punished, promoted, and the whole process of ratification was fabricated, stage-managed, and manipulated. Such a thing has not happened in the history of independent India,” Reddy said.
