Lucknow: Was position of cops’ bike changed

LUCKNOW: The preliminary investigation by forensic experts in Apple executive Vivek Tiwari murder case has found that the position of the bike of the two accused constables had changed a couple of hours after the incident and was different than was told by eyewitness and accused.

According to senior officials, when the forensic team reached the spot, it found the bike lying at the extreme left of the road with its tail light facing the direction where Vivek’s SUV was reportedly positioned at the time of incident. This was contrary to the statements of both constables and eyewitness who have stated in their statements that the bike was parked in the middle of the road and was facing the SUV.

Officials said that this raises doubt that the bike was shifted after the incident. TOI also has a photograph taken soon after the crime in which bike can be seen lying at the side. Eyewitness Sana Khan, who was in the SUV, said in her statement that constable Prashant Chaudhary who shot Vivek overtook the SUV and parked it in the middle of the road and signalled them to stop. However, Vivek continued to drive and in the process the SUV slightly grazed the bike. Chaudhary then opened fired without any warning, she claimed. Chaudhary had said that Vivek tried to run him over and he fired in self defence.

Forensic officials said that they found the bike at the side of road and there was plenty of space for Vivek to drive on without grazing the bike. This suggests that the bike had been shifted from its original position, they said. The preliminary analysis by the UPSRTC technical wing had also hinted in its report that the bike was not hit from front because the rim was not found out of shape and the shockers were intact while the left and the right sides of the bike were damaged. When TOI asked SIT officials if they felt that the position of the bike was changed deliberately to tamper evidence, a senior official said that evidence is still being collected.
