GREATER NOIDA: A 24-year-old
electrician lost his sight after one of his co-workers allegedly switched on the
line he was working on at Dhum Manikpur substation in Dadri. The electrician, Sompal Singh, is admitted to the ICU of Safdarjung Hospital with a critical spine injury. Two substation officals have been booked.
Police said Sompal , a resident of Dokalpura village in Jarcha area, has been working at the substation on a contractual basis for four years.
On Monday around 11am, Sompal was working to fix a high voltage line carrying 11000 KW of current at the
transformer in Royal Colony in
Badalpur area.
Sompal’s mother Rekha Devi indicated a conspiracy behind the incident. She said that before climbing up to the transformer, Sompal had asked the sub-station officer to switch off the line so that he can start working on it but a few minutes later, the power supply resumed and he was injured. He was soon rushed to a local hospital in Dadri from where he was referred to Safdarjung Hospital.
“The other people working at the sub-station told me that my son had even asked for the safety belt, helmet and gloves before going for work but his immediate boss threatened him of his job and sent him without the safety guards. He used to earlier also complain about bullying by his seniors but we asked him to continue working since he is the breadwinner for the family,” she added.
Kishan Singh, a relative of Sompal told TOI that he has lost his eyesight and has received critical injury in the spine.
Vijay Kumar, SHO of Badalpur police station said, “The two accused in the case Neeraj Kumar, a junior engineer and Gyanchand, substation officer have been booked under Section 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the IPC.”
