Mayiladurai-Tirunelveli passenger train was detained at Vadamadurai Railway station for more than two and a half hours after the crew failed to stop the train at the signal and passed it at danger on Tuesday afternoon.

The train that was making a scheduled stoppage at the station at around 3.30 p.m. pulled itself for a few feet ahead of starter signal. With the act of Signal Passing at Danger seen as a serious compromise on safety rules, the crew members were not allowed to work the locomotive further.

A spare locomotive was used to pull the train with different crew operating it. The train resumed it journey at 6 p.m.

A railway union member complained that an Assistant Locopilot with lesser experience was made to assist the locopilot in the passenger train instead of providing him with adequate training in assisting the locopilots in goods train.
