Bank guard shoots himself while cleaning shotgun

Surat: A 72-year-old security guard of a bank died on the spot after a bullet from his licensed shotgun accidentally went off while cleaning in Varachha on Wednesday.
The deceased Bhagwan Khunt, a resident of LH Road, had served in the Indian Army. The bullet from his .12 bore shotgun pierced his chest when he was cleaning the weapon at around 11.30 am at his house. Khunt was cleaning the gun in the gallery of his house.

Police have sent the weapon for ballistic report to find out exactly how the bullet was fired if the deceased was cleaning the gun. Sources in police claimed that no one keeps a cartridge in gun while cleaning. Police will also question the family members in detail to find out exactly what has happened.

“Investigation will proceed once we receive the ballistic report,” said a police officer. Sources said the family was also concerned about Khunt’s liquor addiction. Police are investigating to find out if it was an accident or a suicide.
