Nitish Kumar announces ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh to each people from Bihar killed in UP train accident

PATNA: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Wednesday announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs two lakh to the next kin of the five people from Bihar who died in the New Delhi-bound New Farakka Express accident near Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.

Bihar CM also announced Rs 50,000 to each injured passenger from the state.

Five of the seven persons killed in the derailment of nine coaches of New Farakka – New Delhi Express ( 14003 ) in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday morning, belong to Bihar. While four deceased persons were residents of Munger district, one was of Kishanganj district. Three of deceased persons belong to a family of Munger.

At the behest of Nitish Kumar, Bihar police rushed a team of four police officers at the accident site near Harchandpur station in UP to bring the bodies of Bihar passengers. The visiting police team has also been asked to provide necessary assistance to the injured passengers from Bihar.

Bihar CM also urged the Railways and the district administration of Rae Bareli in UP, where the accident occurred, to expeditiously carry out relief and rescue work.

In the meantime, Railways identified bodies of the victims killed in the New Delhi bound train. The Five persons killed from Bihar have been identified as Shambhu (25), son of Mohan, Sunita (52), wife of Mohan, Kumari Rita (one year), daughter of Mohan, Dinesh (7), son of Rasiklal Manjhi (all of Munger district) and Ajay Kumar (45), son of Ghutkha Nand Kumar of Kisanganj district

The railways identified altogether 28 passengers who sustained serious and minor injuries in the accident. Nine of the injured were identified from Bihar. But the condition of the four injured (from Bihar) was stated to be serious. The seriously injured passengers from Bihar were identified as Anita Devi (25), wife of Radha Mohan, Rinku (20), son of Nadim Shiekh, Rajiv (32), son of Ram Laghu and Sujan (12), son of Ram Bilasi.

According to the ECR’s chief public relations officer Rajesh Kumar, the railways referred eight seriously injured persons, including four from Bihar to Lucknow for treatment. He said the railways also arranged a special train from Lucknow for the stranded passengers to carry on onward journey for New Delhi.

The ill-fated train had left Malda Town at its scheduled time at 9.05 am on Tuesday with the load combination of 22 coaches which included 2AC one , 3AC two , sleeper 10 , general bogies six, brake vans two and one pantry car, sources said .

This train runs every Tuesday and Saturday under the nomenclature ‘New Farakka – New Delhi Express’ (14003) . It had reached Bhagalpur at 12.51 pm, Jamalpur (2.02 pm ), Kiul (3.15 pm) and Patna Junction ( 6.10 pm ) on Tuesday.
