PATNA: Close on the heels of sexual harassment of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) students at Darpakha in Supaul, several students of DC Inter College in Saharsa have stopped attending classes after some local youths molested and attacked them on October 4. The youths belonged to Ekpadhaha village, 9km from the college at Simri Bakhtiarpur.

The KGBV girls were thrashed by the youths and their parents for opposing sexual harassment.

Though sources said over a dozen girls have stopped attending classes, Saharsa SP Rakesh Kumar confirmed that three girls alleged sexual harassment and one of them lodged a written complaint against four people on October 8. The girls alleged that the youths often intercepted and sexually harassed them and passed vulgar comments on their way to the college. On October 4, they badly bashed up two minor boys, one of them being the brother of a victim girl, when the duo opposed the lumpen youths. His right arm was fractured.

“We complained about the incident to the police, but no immediate action was taken,” one of the victims said. Another girl said their parents stopped sending them to the college after the incident.

The police on October 8 registered a complaint lodged by the girl whose brother was thrashed. Simri Bakhtiarpur SHO Ranveer Kumar told this newspaper over the phone that Md Kasim alias Nanhe (45) and Md Asif (27) were arrested on Wednesday from Rajrani Express at Khagaria station.

“The other two accused are minors. According to locals, one of them has been in Delhi for the past six months. We are verifying the allegations,” the SHO said.
