Singer Nitin Bali dies after accident

MUMBAI: Bollywood singer Nitin Bali died on Tuesday, a day after his car rammed into a road divider in Borivli, Mumbai. He had sustained injuries to his head and face in the accident. Police told TOI they were awaiting his medical report to ascertain whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol. Bali shot to fame in the 1990s for remixing popular songs and his remix ‘Neele neele ambar par’ was a chartbuster. He is survived by his wife Roma, a TV actor.

Police said Bali (47) was driving from Borivli to his Malad residence on Monday around midnight when his car rammed into a divider at Daulat Nagar.

“We brought Bali to the police station where a case of rash driving was registered against him and he was granted bail. He was then taken to a hospital. Doctors advised him to get admitted for further treatment but he refused. Around 6.30am, he left the hospital with his wife to head home,” said senior inspector Sanjeev Pimple.

On Tuesday, Bali began to complain of stomach ache. “He began to vomit and and his heart rate dropped. He was rushed to a hospital in Malad. Around 1pm, he was pronounced dead,” said a police officer. His body has been sent for an autopsy and the report is awaited. Bali’s funeral will be conducted on Wednesday.
