Lakhs of people have been evacuated and shifted to safer places in Odisha as the state braces to face Cyclone Titli which has intensified into a 'very severe storm'.
Cyclone Titli is expected to hit coastal regions of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh early Thursday morning and is likely maintain the intensity throughout the day.
Around 3 lakh people have evacuated to safer places the state, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who held a meeting with top state officials to discuss preparations made by different agencies to tackle the situation. Stressing on the government's 'zero casualty' disaster management policy, Patnaik said, "The state government has been closely monitoring the situation. The district collectors are already on high alert."
The government has directed schools, colleges and other educational institutions to remain closed on Thursday. Fishermen have been advised not to venture out in the sea.

1) Cyclone Titli will cross between Gopalpur (Odisha) and Kalingapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) on Thursday morning, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said.
2) There may be damage in the districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam of Andhra Pradesh and Gajapati, Ganjam, Khurda, Nayagarh, and Puri districts of Odisha.
3) The Centre has rushed nearly 1,000 NDRF personnel to Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal as Cyclone Titli made its way towards the coast, besides issuing directions for storage of food, fuel and maintaining power supply and telecommunication lines.

4) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said rainfall would be accompanied by gale wind speed reaching 140 to 150 kmph and gusting to 165 kmph along and off Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts.

5) Wind speed of 60-90 kmph is likely to prevail over interior districts adjacent to south coastal Odisha and wind speed of 60-70 km per hour over the interior districts adjacent to north coastal Odisha.
6) An East Coast Railway (ECoR) official said train services will remain suspended between Khurda Road and Vizianagram from both directions till further notice.
7) At least six trains were cancelled, three were short terminated and around ten trains passing through ECoR were diverted.
8) The storm surge of the height of about one metre above astronomical tide is very likely to inundate low-lying areas in Andhra Pradesh's Srikakulam district, and Odisha's Ganjam, Khurda and Puri districts at the time of landfall.
9) Congress chief Rahul Gandhi expressed hope that the governments of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh are ready to handle the situation arising out of Cyclone Titli. "The cyclone is moving towards Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. This is a time to exercise caution," he said.
10) The Army, the Navy and the Coastguard have also been put on standby so that they can be deployed at short notice as per requirement.
