The Tamil Nadu government has sought environmental clearance from the Centre for certain projects without conducting public hearing in cases where they were disrupted the first time. The argument is that projects get delayed and investors face heavy losses.
The controversial point was raised in a memorandum presented by the State Environment and Pollution Control, K.C.Karuppannan, to Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Among the 13 representations made, the State alleged that “the public, NGOs, representatives of political parties for self development with vested interest disturb the smooth proceedings of the hearing. In such cases, second time hearing was conducted with heavy police protection,” according to the memorandum.
They also claimed that projects were getting due to this and as permission could not be given for the projects, the investors faced heavy loss.
