CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana high court has issued notice to the UT administration, municipal corporation (MC), estate office and traffic SSP on the petition of shopkeepers demanding
parking space in Sector 19 C market.
The matter would come up for hearing on October 17. The petitioners sought the SSP be restrained from challaning vehicles till space is arranged, but the HC refused to grant a stay.
The petition of four shopkeepers demanded appropriate space be provided to them and public in Sadar Bazar of Sector 19 C. According to the petition, there are 432 shops and around 3,000 to 4,000 people visit the market daily. The petition said there is no
parking space for shopkeepers and visitors. The shopkeepers said despite paying property tax to the MC, income tax, GST and ground rent as lease money to the estate office, parking space is not provided to them. It was also mentioned that the traffic police have declared the area behind Sadar Market and sectors 19 and 27 D road tow-away zone.
The petition said the authorities have allowed placed street vendors, who have taken over the parking area. It was mentioned that festive season is coming and there is no parking space in the market, causing problems.
