Public Works department on Wednesday submitted before the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court that it was awaiting funds to take up sanitation projects on the District Court campus in Madurai. The department had earlier submitted that an estimated ₹2.64 crore would be required to build a retaining wall for harvesting rainwater and spread gravel in waterlogged areas.
A Division Bench of Justices M.M. Sundresh and N. Sathish Kumar adjourned the case by a week. The High Court judges who had visited the District Court complex on Tuesday had directed PWD officials to pump out the stagnant water immediately.
Earlier, the Madurai Bar Association was impleaded in the case after it had submitted various proposals for enhancing infrastructure on the court campus.
