NEW DELHI: The government said on Wednesday that it is planning for the next 15 years the kind of investments which are needed for security and technology upgradation for the expected one billion air trips from 200
airports in the country by 2035.
Addressing the aviation security experts of 18 countries at International Aviation Security seminar, junior minister of civil aviation
Jayant Sinha said there is a need for unified command across all airports, use of more technologies like Digi Yatra, AI and cost effectiveness of the security solutions.
CISF, which organised the two-day seminar, said that it is examining the use of latest 3D CT scanning technology that will save passengers from the hassle of taking out their laptops and electronic gadgets from bags at airports.
The technology is currently being tested at Amsterdam and London airports and
CISF is mulling to bring it to India. TOI had first reported that CISF had plans to explore such a technology.
No Indian civil airport has
3D CT scanners and the screening of cabin bags is done using x-ray scanning machines. DG CISF Rajesh Ranjan had told TOI last month that they were exploring the use of 3D CT scanners.
