There are 800 commands which work even without Internet connection

Consumer electronics major LG on Tuesday unveiled in the city a range of televisions whose functions can be controlled by speaking into the remote, thanks to Artificial Intelligence technology-enabled features.

They not only work on fixed voice commands but also understand the intent of query before providing a search result. There are set of 800 commands which works even without Internet connection, a company release on the launch said.

Head-Home Entertainment Marketing of LG Electronics India Abhiral Bhansali said 25 TVs featuring AI technology are being introduced, in the 32-77 inch screen size band and priced from ₹ 32,000 to ₹ 30 lakh. For the festive season, LG has designed several customer offers. Director-Home Entertainment Younchul Park said, “Artificial intelligence is definitely the road ahead for all our future products... with an aim of delivering a unique and more intuitive experience.” The new range includes models under the company’s OLED, Super UHD, UHD and Smart TV categories.

On depreciation of rupee and its impact for LG, he said TVs are produced at its Pune facility – the company makes white goods at its Greater Noida plant – with a combination of imported and locally made components. The currency depreciation indeed made it challenging but the company would like to wait and watch rather than increasing the consumer price. He, however, did not specify a time frame up to which LG would absorb the additional burden.

To a query on competition from Chinese brands, Mr. Park said Indian customers prefer brand, value for money product and companies such as LG that have built a strong sale and service network. LG, he added, is in India for 21 years and developed 650 service points and works with 20,000 trade partners. In 2017, it sold 2.2 million TV sets.
