BMW unveiled the 2019 3-Series sedan at the Paris Motor Show last week and now we’re getting a better glimpse of the wagon variant thanks to several pictures that were published by Brazil’s National Institute of Industrial Property.
First noticed by Quatro Rodas, the patent images reveal the 3-Series Touring will follow in the footsteps of the sedan and adopt an identical front fascia. Bigger changes occur aft of the B-pillar as the wagon has a long sloping roof and unique rear doors.
Interestingly, the 3-Series Touring appears to eschew the company’s trademark Hofmeister kink. Instead, the wagon features rear side glass with a diamond-like shape.
The car’s rear end largely echoes the sedan, but the wagon has a relatively upright tailgate which maximizes cargo room. The Touring has also been equipped with a short rear spoiler.
BMW hasn’t said much about the wagon, but we can expect the model will feature many of the same changes as the sedan. As a result, the car should be significantly larger than its predecessor as the sedan grew by 3.3 inches (85 mm) and has a wheelbase that has been stretched 1.6 inches (41 mm). The model also has a more rigid chassis, a wider track and a weight reduction of up to 121 lbs (55 kg).
Engines should carryover from the sedan, so customers can expect an assortment of petrol and diesel options. Starting with the petrols, there should be a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with outputs of 181 hp (135 kW / 184 PS) and 221 lb-ft (300 Nm) of torque as well as 254 hp (190 kW / 258 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. We can also expect an M340i with an updated six-cylinder engine developing 382 hp (284 kW / 387 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque.
Diesel engines might not be as popular as they once were, but BMW isn’t giving up on them. Instead, the company should offer a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel with outputs of 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS) and 236 lb-ft (320 Nm) of torque as well as 187 hp (140 kW/ 190 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. Fans can also look forward to a 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel with 261 hp (195 kW / 265 PS) and 428 lb-ft (580 Nm) of torque.
