AHMEDABAD: Congress MLA and Gujarat Kshatriya Thakor Sena convener, Alpesh Thakor, who had triggered sentiments against migrant labourers in the state following rape of a 14-month-old girl in Sabarkantha, has decided to sit on sadbhavana (goodwill) fast from Wednesday to express his pains over the recent attacks on people from UP and Bihar whom he considered “criminals” eight days ago.
Thakor’s aide Mukesh Bharvad said that Alpesh will sit on the sadbhavana fast from October 11 at the Sabarmati Ashram.
“My son is critical and is in hospital, so I could not express my feelings in the past two days. I am not concerned with political blame game, I am worried over the plight of the migrants and the allegations that my community is facing. I will resign from the post of MLA if these continued,” said Thakor.
Thakor, who is co-incharge of the Congress party in Bihar, wrote to chief ministers of UP and Bihar on Tuesday, claiming that people from the states have been leaving Gujarat just because of some rumours.
“Neither me nor any of my Thakor Sena members are involved in the attacks on people from UP and Bihar. It is a political game against me,” mentioned Thakor in the letters to UP CM Yogi Adityanath and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar. According to police, at least 10 members of the Sena, including its
Gandhinagar and Patan district chiefs, were involved in the attacks.
