Boy held for stealing cash Rs 70\,000 in Pune

PUNE: The Sinhagad Road police on Tuesday detained a minor boy for stealing Rs 70,000 from a house in Dhayari on October 2.

The suspect had purchased a two-wheeler for Rs 38,000 from the stolen money and the police recovered cash Rs 28,000 from him. A team of Sinhgad Road police led by senior inspector Sardar Patil detained the suspect.

Patil said that on the afternoon of October 2, Prakash Saswade, resident of Dhayari was sleeping at his house. Taking advantage of a half-open door of Saswade’s house, the minor entered the house and fled with Saswade’s trouser having Rs 70,000 in the pocket. “We had checked the CCTV footage and zeroed down on the minor," Patil said.

Patil said that police constable Dayanand Telangepatil shared the minor’s photograph on a mobile messaging group. “Police constables Datta Sonawane, Mayur Sonawane identified the minor and reached his home,” Patil said.

Patil said that the police took him into custody for questioning. “The minor has admitted his involvement in the theft. He revealed that he had purchased a scooter worth Rs 38,000 by using the stolen money. We have recovered Rs 28,000 from him,” Patil said.

He said that the minor has been sent to a city-based correction home, Patil said.
