Life convict dies in Tiruchi government hospital

A 34-year-old prisoner undergoing life sentence in the Tiruchi Central Prison died at the Mahatma Gandhi Government Hospital here on Sunday after he complained of chest pain. The convict P. Sasi alias Sasikumar alias Ravichandran was in the Tiruchi Central Prison for nine years. Sasikumar - a bachelor - who was staying in the Sri Lankan Tamil refugee camp at Vazhavanthankottai on the city's outskirts was arrested by the Thuvakudi police in connection with a murder case booked against him in 2007. He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to undergo life imprisonment following which he was lodged in the Tiruchi Central Prison.

Prison sources said he suffered chest pain on Sunday following which he was rushed to the Mahatma Gandhi Government Hospital where he died. The Government Hospital police station has registered a case. His mother stays in a refugee camp at Kanniyakumari.
