Rahul Gandhi shares clip of Gadkari on pre-poll promises

Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said, “BJP [had] played with the dreams and trust of people by making false promises in their greed for power.”

Mr. Gandhi also shared a 30-second video clip of Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari telling a Marathi television channel that the BJP had made tall promises ahead of the 2014 elections thinking that it would never have to fulfil them as their party would not come to power.

“You are right. Even the people now think that the BJP played with their dreams and trust in its greed to come to power,” Mr. Gandhi tweeted with the video clip.

“We were very confident that we can never come to power. So our people suggested us to make tall promises. If we don’t come to the power, we won’t be responsible anyways. Now people remind us of our promises…We just laugh and move on,” Mr. Gadkari is seen as saying in the show that included actor Nana Patekar as a guest.

The official Congress handle also tweeted the interview to allege that the BJP government was “built on jumlas and fake promises”.

“On the 23rd of this month, the All India Kisan Congress will remind the government of what they promised with a Sansad Gherao where thousands of farmers will take part,”said Nana Patole, the newly appointed head of Kisan Congress.
