Second person dies in hospital after Queensland highway crash
A woman has died in a Brisbane hospital almost a week after a horrific three-vehicle crash on a Queensland highway, which also killed a 17-year-old girl.
The two victims were immediate family, police confirmed, and the 44-year-old woman died in the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital on Monday.
The crash happened about 9.15am last Tuesday, October 2, on the Warrego Highway at Oakey, 155 kilometres west of Brisbane.
Police said a semi-trailer had been travelling east along the highway when it was involved in a collision with the ute, travelling in the same direction.
The impact pushed the ute into the path of oncoming traffic and it was hit by a sedan.
The teenage girl, a passenger in the sedan, was declared dead at the scene.
The teenager's family members in the sedan, the woman and a 48-year-old man, were flown to hospital with "significant injuries", police said.
All three were visiting south-east Queensland from The Range, a suburb in the central Queensland city of Rockhampton.
The driver of the ute, a 36-year-old Oakey man, was taken to Toowoomba Hospital by ambulance in a serious condition.
The semi-trailer driver, a 35-year-old Victorian man, was not injured.
Forensic Crash Unit investigations are ongoing.
