Pimpri-Chinchwad police register FIR

PUNE: An FIR has been registered by Pimpri-Chinchwad police in connection with the death of a 26-year-old Ayurvedic doctor on Sunday due to injuries caused on the neck due to a manja (the glass-coated string used for flying kites), which has been banned the National Green Tribunal. Nobody had helped the deceased Dr Krupali Nikam for several minutes as she lay bleeding on the Nashikphata flyover, police said.

The case against the unidentified person has been registered with Bhosari police station for causing death due to negligence.

Inspector AH Bhosale of Bhosari police station said that the investigation is on to nab the accused person. Police have recovered a piece of manja.According to police, the incident took place around 6.45 pm when Nikam was riding a two-wheeler and going towards Bhosari over the flyover. She got a deep cut on the neck due to the manja and fell from the vehicle. She lay there bleeding and it was only after several minutes that she was rushed to a hospital but she had died.

Earlier in February this year, Suvarna Mujumdar (42), who worked with the marketing department of Sakal, died of severe injuries caused by manja. The incident had taken place on Shivaji Bridge near PMC.
