AirAsia, a low-cost air carrier, will introduce flight services from Visakhapatnam to Bangkok four times a week, beginning December 8, with a one-way promotional fare of ₹2,999. The passengers can book the tickets up to October 21 to avail of the promotional offer.
Visa on arrival
Announcing this at a media conference here on Monday, AirAsia head (Marketing) Rajkumar Paranthaman and Tourism Authority of Thailand Director Cholada Siddhivarn said the flights from the city to Bangkok would ply on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
The return flights to teh city would be on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
“The passengers can easily make a transit from the Don Mueang International Airport to domestic destinations in Thailand. Travel to Bangkok will be hassle-free and visa-on-arrival facility will be extended to the tourists at Bangkok,” Mr. Rajkumar said.
He further said that AirAsia was operating flight services to Bangkok from five Indian cities—Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Jaipur and Kochi—and Vizag would be added to the list in December.
Tourist count
“Around 1.2 million tourists from India visited Thailand last year and the number is expected to go up to 1.4 million this year. The tourists can visit different parts of Thailand,” Ms. Cholada said.
Replying to queries, Mr. Rajkumar said that the AirAsia Vizag – Kuala Lumpur as also the domestic flights from Vizag to Bengaluru and Kolkata were having a good patronage.
On the sustainability of the Vizag – Bangkok flight, he said that he was confident of success which was the reason for introducing the flight services for four days a week.
“The objective here is to increase the frequency to daily in the next six months,” he said.
