A large number of devotees of Lord Ayyappa, including women and college students, observed a day-long fast in front of the Collectorate here on Tuesday demanding the review of the Supreme Court ruling that women of all ages be allowed to enter the hill shrine.
The fast, organised by the Sabarimala Ayyappa Seva Samajam, began with a prayer. The participants also signed on a banner to press their demand for the review of the ruling.
R.P. Gopinath, president of the urban district unit of the Bhartiya Janata Party, Dineshkumar, president of the Ayyappa Seva Samajam, secretary Venkatesh and president of the Sastha Nagar Ayyappa Ashram Trust Balasundaram were among those who took part in the fast. Mr. Dineshkumar and Mr. Balasundaram said that a petition demanding the review of the Supreme Court verdict will be sent to the President and Prime Minister soon.
