GWS star Dylan Shiel has arrived in Melbourne with a decision on his future likely to be made today. St Kilda, Carlton, Hawthorn and Essendon are all in the running for his signature.

Lycett told the Port Adelaide website that it was a tough decision to leave West Coast.

"I had eight great seasons with the Eagles and won a premiership, and the club has been fantastic to me and my family," he said.

"I can't thank West Coast enough for making me a better player and person.

"But I am excited to be coming home to South Australia and to the club that I supported since my childhood.

"I can't wait to get back to Adelaide and want to help the Power achieve some success."

Lycett has joined Port Adelaide on a five-year deal reportedly worth $3 million.

Breaking news

Fremantle are trying to break their contract with Harley Bennell.

Despite playing only two games in his first three seasons at Fremantle, Bennell was handed a one-year contract extension in August.

But The Age understands that new club football boss Peter Bell has been searching for ways to either trade Bennell or remove him from the list.

When contacted for comment, the Dockers said "from the club's point of view Harley is a contracted player" and pointed The Age in the direction of Bennell's management.

Michael Gleeson and Jake Niall wrap the news from day one of the trade period. Catch up on the implications for Jesse Hogan, Steven May and more, right here.
