Bollywood singer Nitin Bali died on Tuesday, 13 hours after his car rammed into a road divider in Borivli (E). He had sustained injuries to his head and face in the accident. Police told TOI they were awaiting his medical report to ascertain whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol. Bali shot to fame in the 1990s for remixing popular songs; his remix 'Neele neele ambar par' was a chartbuster. Bali was married to TV actor Roma.
Police said Bali (47) was driving from Borivli to his
Malad residence on Monday around midnight when his Getz rammed into a divider at Daulat Nagar. Kasturba Marg police was informed of the mishap.
"We brought Bali to the police station where a case of rash driving was registered against him and he was granted bail. He was then taken to a public hospital. Doctors advised him to get admitted for further treatment but he refused. Around 6.30am, he left the hospital with his wife to head home," said senior inspector Sanjeev Pimple, Kasturba Marg police.
No one else was hurt in the mishap. Bali's car was towed to the police station.
Shortly after reaching home on Tuesday morning, Bali began to complain of stomach ache. "He began to vomit and his blood pressure and his heart rate dropped. His wife rushed him to Raksha Hospital in Malad. He couldn't be revived though. Around 1pm on Tuesday, he was pronounced dead," said a police officer.
His body has been sent for an autopsy and the report, which will state the cause of death, is awaited. Bali's funeral will be conducted on Wednesday.
Bali was previously married to VJ Ruby Bhatia who had featured in one of his compositions 'Na jaane kahan kho gaya'. The couple separated later. Bali did well professionally in the 1990s. He later went off the
radar.
