Rajkot: Khelaiyas in Rajkot will sway to the tune specially prepared by traffic police this Navratri beginning Wednesday.
Rajkot traffic police haves prepared garbas with the help of a local non-government organization with lyrics that spread awareness about the traffic rules and messages of potential threats to life in violating them.
Garbas like ‘Koi Kehjo Chaganbhai ne jai vahan ma mobile vapre nahi’ (Someone tell Chaganbhai not to use mobile while driving) and Vahan dhima na hake ene jivan tuka thai (life shortens of those who love speeding their vehicles) have been specially penned for the enthusiasts along with the traditional ones.
There are four such garba songs which give message of importance of wearing helmet, not to talk while driving, not breaking traffic signals, warning against drunk driving and others.
Besides recording the audio songs, traffic police have also prepared videos capturing some people violating the traffic rules. The video songs will be played on LED screens at garba venues.
Jitu Gotecha, president of Mission Smart City Trust, an NGO who prepared these songs, said, “When we were conducting some unique traffic awareness drives on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi, traffic cops got this idea to do something different in Navratri to give people the message about traffic rules. That’s how we started making these garbas.”
Lyricist, music director and singers are all from Rajkot and the videos of traffic rule violations have been shot near Mahila College Chowk.
Joint commissioner of police S M Khatri said” “We will also distribute CDs to all garba organizers and ask them to add these songs in their usual playlist. This will be surprise element for the khelaiyas and they will catch more attention.”
These garbas will also be uploaded on video sharing websites like Youtube and social media sites Facebook reach out to maximum people.
