Thane: The Central Railway’s apathy towards accident victims was once again highlighted after the Diva station authorities failed to provide an ambulance to ferry a dead victim from the mishap spot to the railway station on Sunday afternoon. The police and rescue officials, including two members from the Diva railway passenger association, had to finally ferry the corpse lying on the Diva-Panvel line back to the station in a tempo, nearly two hours later.
According to the railway officials, they were informed about an accident victim lying on the tracks near Agasan level crossing. The railway police and porters were called in to attend to the victim; but despite repeated attempts, no ambulance facility could be made available at the station. The team finally had to hail a tempo to reach the spot which was nearly 5-kms away from the station. “After being turned down by several auto drivers, a tempo driver agreed to take us to the station,” said Nitin Chavan, vice president of the Diva railway passenger association.
