The Gujarat state police have nabbed two Thakor Sena members and a Congress party member for their involvement in provoking and spreading messages on social media against migrants from UP and Bihar in Gujarat, over the case of rape of a 14-month-old-girl in Sabarkantha.
During a press conference held on Sunday at the Ranip office of Congress MLA Alpesh Thakor, he denied his involvement in violence against migrants that has shaken the state. Cops have arrested associates of the Congress legislator.
Adalaj police, on Monday, nabbed five Thakor community members along with elected taluka member from Congress Mahotji Thakor for threatening a migrant in Uvarsad village near Adalaj area on October 2 night. According to the cops, the accused went to the victim's house and threatened to kill him unless he vacated his house before October 8. The entire incident was shot on a mobile phone and went viral on social media.
Crime branch suspects organised criminal conspiracy behind violence During the investigation by the cyber cell of crime branch, they revealed details of around 106 people who were spreading aggressive posts, videos and messages against migrants and were provoking people. They have already been able to nab 15 of them. The investigation revealed that the messages were spread in an organised manner to target a specific point and create violence.
Rajdeep Zala, DCP Crime branch, said, "We suspect that it is an organised criminal conspiracy to provoke people against migrants. We are trying to find the origin of the messages and the actual person behind it."
In the past one week, several messages, videos and posts have been circulating on social media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram, targeting migrants. The cyber cell of crime branch has asked social media authorities to take down the posts which are provoking people. In the past 24 hours, around 15 such videos and messages have been taken down and the process is going on for the rest.
