Products worth ₹32 lakh seized

The Hyderabad police unearthed a major racket of duplicate tea powder and hair oil packing units on Monday.

A team of Commissioner’s Task Force (East) along with Begum Bazar police raided a godown at Hindi Nagar in Goshamahal, where they seized inferior quality stocks packed in branded covers ready to be supplied to various retail outlets in Hyderabad and surrounding areas. They apprehended the owner, which further led them to raids on manufacturing units at Jeedimetla, Medchal and Charlapally.

The accused, Pukhraj Purohit (27), Rakesh Jain (42), Mahaveer Jain (36) and Gewar Ram (25) were packing and supplying sub-standard tea powders with Chakra Gold, Red Label, 3 Roses brand covers, said S. Chaitanya Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police (Task Force).

He said spurious coconut hair oil packed in Parachute coconut oil bottles were also seized.Police seized duplicate material worth ₹32 lakh from their possession.

They used to procure counterfeit packets of the branded tea powders from Mishra of Jain marketing in New Delhi and fill them with low quality tea powder purchased from Begum Bazar and supply it to retailers in the city. Mahaveer Jain operates a spurious coconut oil manufacturing unit at Charlapally. He was was earlier involved in a similar case with Malakpet police station in November 2016.

A team led by inspector K. Srininvas conducted the raids and unearthed the scheme. The accused along with seized property were handed over to Begum Bazar police.
