That the lions in Gir are now being vaccinated points to neglect and ignorance on the part of the government as well as the forest department. The lack of enough protected habitat for the large population of the lions is a major problem. They need to be translocated as soon as possible. More studies and programmes should be conducted to ensure the well-being of the big cats.
