Chief Secretary Tom Jose has called for taking up a house reconstruction challenge by building houses damaged in the flood within 100 days.
Addressing a meeting of construction agencies here on Monday, Mr.Jose said that 17,000 houses need to be reconstructed. Various agencies have come forward to take up the task and some beneficiaries have also expressed their willingness to do it, he said.
The cost of a 400 sq.ft house has been fixed at ₹ 4 lakh. It has been proposed to use pre-fabrication and pre-engineering for construction. It has been proposed to have the same method for constructing houses under Life Mission and also for those planned for urban local bodies. Each house would have two bedrooms, a hall, kitchen and toilet facility, he said.
Various construction methods were discussed at the meeting.
