Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Ajay Maken on Monday condemned the lathi charge on East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) sanitation workers who were heading for a peaceful sit-in protest at Sansad Marg.
Mr. Maken said that the lathi charge on the workers at the direction of the BJP government at the Centre was not only undemocratic, but also a violation of human rights.
“The EDMC sanitation workers have been on strike for the past 27 days. But instead of finding a solution to that, the BJP-ruled Centre and the municipal corporations of Delhi have been indulging in coercive methods, which was clearly evident from the lathi charge on the sanitation workers today,” he said.
‘Anti-poor mindset’
The Delhi Congress said that the inhuman attitude of the BJP-ruled Central government, the civic bodies, and the AAP government in the Capital clearly shows their “anti-poor and anti-sanitation workers” mindset.
It said that during the Congress regime in Delhi, for 15 years, the government never allowed such a situation to arise, claiming that the Congress government took a humanistic approach to the plight of the sanitation workers.
