‘Apply online for permissions’

The static surveillance teams and the flying squads should work in tandem with the election returning officers of the five Assembly constituencies in the district to strictly enforce the model code of conduct (MCC) for the ensuing Assembly elections, said Collector and the District Election Officer R. V. Karnan.

Three flying squads accompanied by a videographer will tour each constituency and monitor election expenditure of the candidates and submit reports on the compliance of the MCC to the election authorities on a daily basis, he said.

All the vehicles should be thoroughly checked to prevent transport of cash and liquor and other violations of model code of conduct, if any, in the run up to upcoming elections, he added.

He was speaking at a session on the MCC held here on Tuesday. Khammam Police Commissioner Tafseer Iqbal, Expenditure Monitoring Committee nodal officer Akhil Chand and others were present.

Security measures

Mr. Karnan briefed the officials on the set of guidelines issued by the Election Commission on the implementation of the MCC for ensuring free and fair elections. He said all political parties and contesting candidates should apply online through Suvidha portal for obtaining permission for public meetings, use of loud speakers and vehicles.

Mr. Tafseer Iqbal detailed the security measures like vehicle checks and intensive patrolling initiated by the Police Department to ensure strict enforcement of the MCC in all the five Assembly constituencies of the district.

He asked the flying squads to keep a strict watch on the movement of each vehicle entering the district at the check-posts and seize those vehicles found without proper documents and or transporting cash, liquor and other material illegally.
