PATNA: The
Bihar cabinet on Tuesday approved a proposal to impose penalty on users of plastic carry bags of all sizes and thickness.
Principal secretary (cabinet secretariat) Sanjay Kumar said the ban would come into force 60 days after a government notification on it would be issued. It will cover all the municipal corporations,
nagar parishad and nagar panchayats.
In case of production and storage of plastic carry bags, the defaulter will be fined Rs 2,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 5,000 for the first, second and third violations respectively. In case of commercial use, this amount will be Rs 1,500, Rs 2,500 and Rs 3,500 and in case of domestic use Rs 100, Rs 200 and Rs 500.
Those burning plastic bags at public places will be fined Rs 2,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 5,000 and those littering public places with such bags will be fined Rs 1,000, Rs 1,500 and Rs 3,000 for the first, second and third violations.
