SAIL shares crack 4% after Bhilai plant explosion NEW DELHI: Shares of Steel Authority of India (SAIL) plunged over 4 per cent in Tuesday's session on reports of a gas pipeline explosion in its Bhilai plant.

Six people have been killed and many injured in a gas pipeline explosion at SAIL's plant in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, ANI reported.

The blast happened in a pipeline near coke oven section of the plant in Bhilai town, PTI quoted a local official as saying.

The scrip recovered slightly and was trading at Rs 62.75, down 2.71 per cent on BSE around 1:55 pm. The BSE Sensex was 0.35 per cent down at 34,355 at that time.

The BSE Metal pack was nearly 1 per cent up with Coal India, Vedanta, Tata Steel, Hindalco and NMDC as top gainers.

SAIL, JSW Steel, Jindal Steel, Hindustan Zinc were losing in the index.

The 30-share Sensex had 18 losers at that time, among them, Tata Motors, Asian Paints, HUL, Maruti and Bharti Airtel led.
