TNPCB team to visit the river and collect samples

The presence of abundant foam in the water flowing in River Tirumanimuthar has caused anxiety among the residents of Vennanthur and the surrounding villages on Tuesday.

Following widespread rain in various parts of the district, there is heavy water flow in River Tirumanimuthar that passes through Salem city, Vennanthur, Mathiyampatti, Mallasamuthiram, before merging into River Cauvery at Paramathivelur in Namakkal district.

Mathiyampatti lake

The river supplies water to Mathiyampatti lake near Vennanthur.

The residents of Vennanthur and the surrounding areas on Tuesday morning found abundant foam in the lake, which also covered the bridge across Tirumanimuthar.

Due to the foam on the bridge, the flow of vehicular traffic to Mathiyampatti and surrounding villages was suspended for about three hours in the morning. After water receded in the river and on the bridge, traffic was later restored.

When contacted, the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) officials said that a team would visit the lake and the river.

The team is expected to collect samples from the river and send it for testing for finding out the cause for the foam in the river and lake water.
