Vadodara: While not a single untoward incident may have taken place around them, the concern for their families ensured that these workers from Uttar Pradesh (UP) left Godhra leaving their employer in a lurch. Such is the situation that their employer has been forced to start working in an attempt to meet deadlines.
Pankaj Mistry of Gopinath Enterprise has been struggling to ensure that the orders of exterior panels for facades of buildings are completed in time. Mistry has only one local worker who is on the job these days.
“Nothing happened here, but the seven or eight works I had moved to Ahmedabad where their families were staying. The families were concerned about their well-being and had called them home,” said Mistry.
Mistry pointed out that workers from UP had an expertise in fabrication and panel making. “It is very difficult to find local workers who have an expertise in this work. Work has come to a standstill since about four days now,” said Mistry.
With Navratri and Dussehra around the corner, several customers of Mistry were looking for their orders to be delivered in the coming days. “The customers understand that this is an extreme situation, but have to do a lot of explanation to them,” said Mistry. Mistry said there was no information if the workers were staying in Ahmedabad or had left for UP. “I am not sure when they will return,” he said.
