Award carries cash prize of ₹5 lakh

The family members of the Seventh Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan, welcomed the Urdu Academy’s decision to institute an award in his name carrying a cash prize of ₹5 lakh.

Nawab Najaf Ali Khan, one of the grandsons of the Seventh Nizam, welcomed the decision of Urdu Academy Chairman Raheemuddin Ansari on Monday and said it was “better late than never”. Mr. Ali Khan stated that the Academy was also planning to publish a 1,000 page book highlighting the life and achievements of the last Nizam, Sir Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan Bahadur Nizam VII.

He felt that the book would help the younger generations know about the Seventh Nizam’s rule, which he said was considered a great era from 1911 to 1948 as it focused on developmental activities, culture and academics.

“At least some recognition is given to him after 51 years of his passing away,” Mr. Ali Khan said.
