PANAJI: With the government designating officers to oversee reconstruction of destroyed or mutilated records of birth and marriage, relief is in sight for those looking to secure fresh authentic documents.
The reconstruction process under the Goa Reconstruction of Records and Registers Act, 2005, has been initiated and the government is looking for cooperation from document-seekers.
“A provision has been made for a summary inquiry to allow any person to help reconstruct records with existing documents or supporting documents available with them,” state registrar cum head of notary
services Ashutosh Apre said.
Applicants can fill the prescribed form for fresh documents in lieu of destroyed records and submit it to the sub-registrar concerned for processing.
On December 19, 2017, the government had launched e-teor, a web-based application to allow the public, officers and other authorities to verify birth records pertaining to the period from 1964 to 1970.
The department has undertaken a few measures to smoothen out the process. The e-teor application will soon be made exclusively online to avoid long queues at the offices.
Similarly,
infrastructure will be improved to meet the requirements of online requests. A dedicated team in each taluka will be working for e-teors and efforts will be made to update the records after digitization
Document seekers checking online can log on to Goa online services and access their records after providing requisite details on the government website.
Marriage records are available with sub-registrars in physical form.
