Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Conference (KCBC) president Archbishop M. Soosa Pakiam on Monday launched the disbursement of assistance meant for those who suffered losses during the Cyclone Ockhi.
During a function organised at the premises of the Thiruvananthapuram Social Service Society (TSSS), the Archbishop inaugurated the distribution of the first installments of assistance meant for constructing houses. While the KCBC has pledged to construct 25 houses at a cost of ₹7 lakh each, the initial installments of ₹1 lakh each were distributed to the beneficiaries.
The KCBC will also distribute ₹1 crore among 256 members of 182 self-employment units and ₹1.25 crore for acquiring fishing boats and equipment.
The relief efforts were being undertaken through the TSSS. TSSS director George Vettikattil delivered the keynote address on the occasion.
