Vice President of India, Venkaiah Naidu, hailed various governmental reforms and came down heavily on corruption, black money and tax evasion.
Addressing a function organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore (ICCIC) to mark the inauguration of its 90th year celebrations, Naidu said “reform, perform and transform” should be every individual’s motto.
The country needs reforms even after 70 years of independence as over 20 per cent live in poverty, illiteracy is at 22 per cent and gender discrimination and untouchability prevail in certain areas. Issue of black money, corruption and tax evasion will need to be looked into more seriously. While the government is trying to usher in reforms and initiate action against offenders, people are indulging in criticism, he said.
“The international community should come together and ink an agreement for exchange of information against such offenders,” he said.
“Digital transformation is the need of the hour.”
“It will ensure transparency and improve the system for betterment of the people,” he said.
