With the three swine flu cases being reported in the city and Anakapalle in September and October, twelve screening centres have been set up in the district.

According to District Medical and Health Officer S. Tirupati Rao, one of the three patients was treated at a corporate hospital and got discharged. The other two—one at a private hospital and another at the Government Hospital for Chest Diseases (GHCD)—are undergoing treatment.

The screening centres have been set up at KGH, GHCD, NTR Hospital at Anakapalle, Area Hospital at Narsipatnam, INHS Kalyani, Port Golden Jubilee Hospital, the Railway Hospital and the primary health centres at Araku, Paderu and Chintapalli.

At a review meeting with medical officers on Monday, Collector Pravin Kumar instructed that special wards be made available at KGH, GHCD, NTR Hospital, Narsipatnam and Paderu. Depending upon the condition of patients, they should be rushed to the GHCD that had more ventilators.

Awareness campaign

In view of its widespread incidence of swine flu in the other parts of the State, the Collector asked the officials to carry out awareness campaigns on symptoms and the treatment available.
